This tutorial covers how to design a halo pendant entirely, and even rendering it, everything using 2Shapes for Rhino. The design resulting from this guide will be composed of an elegant pendant with a bright ruby and diamonds set on a halo setting.
Gems Halo Bail Render and Animation Gumball
1 Your 2Shapes account
Make sure to be logged in your 2Shapes account, if you are not logged in, a grey icon should appear on the top-right corner. To log in, click on the Login icon. You can create your free account at app.2shapes.com
Under the Gems tab, click on the Certified Diamond command
3 Select a Certified Diamond
Select a Round 0.4ct diamond and click on the + button on its left to add it. If this list is empty, click on Manage Stock icon and add your diamond stock.
4 Halo Builder
Now, under the Gems tab, click on the Halo icon. Don't select any preset and click on the Pencil button.
5 Gem’s measurements
Click on the Gem tab and change its Gem Size to 1.3mm, the Minimum distance to 0.1mm, the Vertical to 0mm, the Bright cut to 0.1, the Inner height to 0.7 and the Inner width to 1.2 .
6 Prong’s measurements
In Prong Settings, set Gem inside to 0.15mm and Prong Height to 0.7mm.
Select the Round Shape and set the Width and height to 0.9mm.
8 Main Gem Prongs
Click on Main Gem Prongs tab. change the prong positions. Under the Prong tab, click on the 3rd Option: 4 Rotated Prongs, and the Gem inside to 0.5mm.
9 Metal measurements
Click on the Metal tab. Change the Width to 2.3mm, the Height to 1.5mm, the Distance to gem to 0.1mm, the Z position to 0 and the Rotation to 15º.
10 Apply changes
After making these modifications, click on the Confirm changes button on the top-right corner.
11 Move the Halo
Select the diamond and the Halo gemsetting, and move it On Z direction 6.0mm and up 1.4mm.
12 Bail Builder
Under Smart Components, click on the Bail icon. Don't select any preset and click on the Pencil button.
13 Bail Top profile
Click on the Profile preview, and in the Asset Selector dialog, select the asset 005.
14 Profile’s measurements
Change the width to 4mm and the height to 1.5mm.
15 Bail bottom profile
Click on the Bottom Profile tab. And click on the Profile preview, and in the Asset Selector dialog, select the asset 005.
16 Profile’s measurements
Change the width to 1.8mm and height to 1.0mm.
Change the Starting on top to 30%, Starting on bottom to 25% and Curve Isolation to 40%.
Change the Thickness to 1mm, Diameter to 1.5 and Overlapping distance to 1mm.
19 Apply changes
Now click on the Confirm changes button on the top-right corner.
Under the File tab, click on Render and Animation to open Render and Animation Studio.
21 Applying materials
Drag and drop the materials you want to use, in this tutorial we will use White Gold 18k.
22 Raytraced Display Mode
Hover your mouse over to the right bottom corner in your viewport and click on the Raytraced icon.
23 Applying Halo Gem Materials
Select the Halo gems, and under the Gem Materials, click on the Diamond material.
24 Applying Main gem Materials
Select the Main gem, and under the Gem Materials, select the main gem, and click on the Ruby material.
25 Previewing and Render
Set your favorite point of view and let your computer calculate. As more time you let it calculate, more detailed it will be. When it is right for you, click on the Render button to export.
