Celtic Knot Pendant

With this tutorial you will learn how to design a Celtic Knot pendant, and even render it, everything using 2Shapes for Rhino. By following the steps of this guide, you will create a celtic-knot style pendant, with an intrinquite and timeless design inspired by ancient Ireland culture.

1 Your 2Shapes account
Make sure to be logged in your 2Shapes account, if you are not logged in, a grey icon should appear on the top-right corner. To log in, click on the Login icon. You can create your free account at app.2shapes.com

2 Raster To vector
Under the Curves tab, click on the Raster to Vector icon.

3 Raster to Vector Image
Download this image Download link for this tutorial. Click on the Image Selector, and search for the image that you have downloaded

4 Image parameters
Change Ignore Area in Pixel to 1, Tolerance to 0.2 and the Corner Threshold to 0.

5 Apply changes
Click on the Confirm changes button on the top-right corner.

6 Delete Externeal Curve
Delete the square external curve that you see around the celtic knot.

7 Curves Palcements
Place the Curves to the middle of the Scene

8 Adding Supports
Under the Curves tab, click on Circle and next Diameter icon.

9 First Circle placement
Move your mouse from the top part of the Celtic Knot, and finish clicking on the lower part

10 Delete Curves
Delete the curves what we use as guides.

11 Offset
Select the circle and under the Curves tab, click on Offset, then type 1.3mm and press enter.

12 Planar Surfaces
Select this 2 curves and click on From Planar Curver under Surface tab

13 Planar Surfaces II
Now select the other curves and click on From Planar Curves.

14 Planar Surfaces III
Click on the interior circle curve of you Celtic Knot and click on From Planar Curves to fill the pendant with a surface

15 Offset
Select all the surfaces except the filled surface and click on Offset, type 1.5 and press Space. Now click Both Sides option and press enter to see the result.

16 Offset interior
Select the filled surface from and click on Offset, type 0.8 and press Space. Both Sides must be set as Yes and then press enter to see the result

17 Boolean union
Under Solids select all the surfaces and click Boolean Union

18 Hide
Type on the Command Console Hide and press Enter.

Under Solids click Ellipsoid16, second Axis value 16, and third Axis value 4.

20 Show
Type on the Command Console Hide and press Show.

21 Move to the right
Select your Celtic Knot and move it to the right

22 Slop
Under Transform click Slop16, second Axis value 16, and third Axis value 4.

23 Slop by 3 points
On the Command Console click 3Point.

24 Pendant Corners
Click on the outermost corners of the Celtic Knot

25 Slop on Ellipsoid
Click on the middle of the Ellipsoid

26 Align on the Ellipsoid
Align the pendant until you see it centered

27 Invert selection and hide
Select the Pendant and on the Command Console type Invert and press enter next type Hide and press enter.

28 Bail Builder
Under Smart Components, click on the Bail icon. Don't select any preset and click on the Pencil button.

29 Move the Pendant
Select the Pendant and move it with the Gumball so it matches with the bottom part of the bail.

30 Change the Upper curve profile
Click on the Upper profile tab, and in the Asset Selector dialog, select the asset 008.

31 Change the Bottom curve profile
Click on the Bottom profile tab and then on its Profile preview, in the Asset Selector dialog, select the asset 008.

32 Bail tangent's
Change Starting on top to 50%, the Starting on bottom to 50% and the Curve Tension to 50%

33 O Ring
Activate O-Ring and change Overlapping Distance to 1.5mm

34 Apply changes
Click on the Confirm changes button on the top-right corner.

35 Rendering
Under the File tab, click on Render and Animation to open Render and Animation Studio.

36 Applying materials
Drag and drop the materials you want to use, in this tutorial we will use White Gold 18k for bothe the Bail and the Celtic Knot.

37 Raytraced Display Mode
Then, hover your mouse to the right bottom corner in your viewport and click on the Raytraced icon.

38 Applying floors
Under the Floors tab, click on Marble Brown.

39 Previewing and Render
Set your favorite point of view and let your computer calculate. As more time you let it calculate, more detailed it will be. When it is right for you, click on the Render button to export.
